Her earliest sculptures—raw yet intuitive—caught the eye of discerning mentors and led her to an apprenticeship with legendary sculptor Chaim Gross, who taught her to see tools not as instruments of force, but as extensions of intention.

From there, her journey became a pilgrimage. Residencies with Andrea Grassi and Jose De Creeft, and a formative stretch at Italy’s stone-carving haven Pietrasanta, gave her fluency in the ancient language of sculpture. Her works have since found homes in galleries across New York, London, Paris, Berlin, and Sydney, though her pieces seem to transcend geography—anchored instead in something timeless and elemental.

Perhaps the clearest expression of Hendelman’s vision is her “Tribes” collection: 99 stone sculptures that celebrate the shared breath of a diverse human family. Each piece stands as both witness and vessel—carved, yes, but never silenced.

In Hendelman’s hands, stone remembers. And it speaks.

Recent Collectors 2021 – 2025
New York, London and Paris

Publications
HENDELMAN TRIBES
Anthony Haden-Guest

Solo Exhibitions
Highland Park Modern Exhibition 1stDibs 2019
John Saladino, Saladino Group, Inc., New York City 2007-2013
Cour Britt Art Inc., New York City 2003-2006
Murakami Gallery, New York City 2003-2006
Scultz Gallery Berlin 1990-1993

Group Exhibitions
Red Windows Christmas Exhibition, Barney’s New York City 1994
Ute Stebich Gallery, Lenox, MA 1994-1995
Christie’s Inc., sculpture auctioned 1995
Murakami Gallery, New York City 1997-2000
Thread Waxing Space, New York City 1995-1996
Downtown Association, New York City 1998
Syda Yoga Foundation, New York City 2000
Gallery 1-20, New York City 2001
Martha Ciara Gallery, Riverhead, NY 2002
Michael Dawkins, Inc., New York City 2000-2003

Reviews
ABC News One Interview-Lindsey Davis
Art rental segment 2009
New York Italia Winter 1995
Ambiance Magazine
I am art – HENDELMAN “TRIBES”
Puebla Mexico 2011

Film/Media Credits
Wall Street “Money Never Sleeps”
20th Century Fox
Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone 2010
Remember Me
Summit Entertainment, Underground Films
Allen Coulter 2010
It Runs In The Family
Metro Goldwyn Mayer
Fred Schepisi 2003

Born in New York City, Wendy Hendelman doesn’t just sculpt stone – she listens to it.
